A 21st Century Alliance. Building Scholarly Communities in the New Library: About the Alliance

Mission

The 21^st Century Alliance is an effort by the research library community to build a strong and lasting partnership with key academic professional societies to better conceive and construct the next generation of library services, practices, and programs in support of a swiftly evolving academic environment.

Executive Committee (meets once a year)

Comprised of the representative organizations:

	American Council of Learned Societies
	Association of Research Libraries
	Coalition for Networked Information
	Council on Library and Information Resources
	Digital Library Federation
	The Library of Congress
	National Academies
	Research Libraries Group
	Social Sciences Research Council

Steering Committee (meets quarterly)

Comprised of a subset of the Executive Committee, to include administrative officers from the member organizations, scholars, and selected library directors.

The steering committee would provide guidance and oversight for the following projects and programs within an Alliance Knowledge Environment:

	Publications of reports and studies relevant to disciplinary change and transforming environments in higher education
	Links to relevant workshops and conferences
	Links to exemplary projects in the disciplines

An annual summary of activity in these areas

An annual conference or sessions within routine conferences scheduled by the member organizations

Chat rooms, discussion areas, comment fields, notes
